Picked up a home from my speakers at work...

I closed on a forclosed home today. The living room is 15 x 11. My three 828 cabs will go across the long side front with 816 511/811 hanging for side surround and 605's or 600 for rear surround. My question is has anybody built sub horns exiting up through the floor? Obviously the waf is not a problem. It"s a 7.1 system and the room will probably be as dead as I can get it.

A friend did, but hasn't been heard from since he stepped off in the hole...

Seriously though, no, but I've seen pics of some nice through-the-wall jobs. For a floor opening, a basement/crawl IB might be better.

    Congrats on the house!

I never got to hear it, but there is a system in Portland that uses the basement as the woofer box. Said to be amazing.

Re: Picked up a home from my speakers at work...

I would probably run an IB (infinite baffle) setup , but you can always google around. The link that OG gave has been been seen countless of times... Those horn subs are massive....

There is a forum on the AA by the moniker of ESO, I think, But he has been using horn sub that start at his basement and lead into the top of his 3rd floor listening room. All concrete formed and all. Hw swears by them,, also the IB guys do to .....

The IB stress to build a manifold and not a straight line array... due to the stresses caused by the spl's generated......

Either way , would be impressive....

Yeah, that's cool, but it would take ~60 sq ft of his 160 ft available just for the hole(s) in the floor...

Still leaves him 100 sq ft.

    Hey Horn Savant...

    Have a few questions...

You have any construction pics or a link?

Do you run a pair of horns?

Or just one horn and a pair of 416's?

How long is you horn's length?

what do you use to integrate it? Active or passively?

    Power you are using?

    Thanks,

    -chris

And -- is that really a doorway you've made into a horn?
